General
Responsibilities of Guarding
The lifeguard
provides water safety, beach safety and beach
control. The lifeguard also rents umbrellas
and chairs as part of the beach service. Specific
duties include responding to any emergency
in the water or on the beach , administering
first aid, enforcement of city ordinances,
responding to the public at large in a professional
manner, participating in all training sessions,
preparing and filing reports, collecting money
for rental equipment and the daily set up
and take down of rental equipment.

Essential
Job Functions & Requirements
1. |
You
must be at least 18 years of age and
in good health with no physical limitations. |
2. |
You
must be able to complete a 500 meter
swim in 12 minutes or less. |
3. |
You
must possess all current lifeguard,
CPR and first aid certifications. |
4. |
You
must observe beach and water areas for
any unsafe situation that may arise
and be able to respond quickly. |
5. |
You
must be able to communicate with others
in a professional manner. |
6. |
You
must be able to prepare written reports. |

Working
Conditions & Physical Abilities
Work is performed
outdoors and around water. Exposure to direct
sunlight over extended periods of time is
a part of this job. There are extended periods
of walking, standing and sitting. It is essential
that one must be able to hear calls for help
and see troubled swimmers or beach users.
One must be able to lift up to 35lbs. or more
as well as operate all rescue equipment.

Housing
John's Beach Service
has a dormitory style house for guards to
live in while employed with us. The house
has room for a total of 18 guards. The house
opens on the 1st of May and closes on the
15th of September. The cost of living is $50
per week and all utilities are included.

Salary
& Pay
The pay varies according
to experience and commissions earned. Every
lifeguard stand is set up on a percentage
basis. The commissions come from rentals of
chairs and umbrellas. During the first year,
lifeguards can earn in excess of $500 per
week. Advancement is evaluated on effort,
motivation and commitment o John's Beach Service
and its determination to provide top of the
line beach service for the Myrtle Beach area.
The first year lifeguard does have avenues
for advancements within the company.

Equipment
John's Beach Service
uses the best rescue equipment and communication
systems available. All guards will have to
be familiar with the use of rescue boats,
patrol vehicles, 4 Wheelers, rescue kayaks,
rescue boards, standard first aid equipment
and 10,000 MHz radio communication systems.
